Why Choosing a Certified Post-Surgery Lymphatic Therapist Matters

When you’re preparing for cosmetic surgery, you probably spend a lot of time researching your surgeon, your procedure, your compression garments, and everything you’ll need once you get home.

But there’s another decision that deserves just as much thought: who you trust with your post-surgery lymphatic care.

Lymphatic drainage after surgery isn’t simply a relaxing massage. Your body is healing, swelling is changing from day to day, and the way your tissues feel during the first week may be completely different a few weeks later. That’s why choosing a therapist with specific training in Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and experience working with post-surgical clients matters.

At Wrthit, every therapist who works with our post-surgery clients is C-MLD certified, CAMTC certified, and specifically trained in The Wrthit Way™, our approach to individualized lymphatic care and post-surgery recovery.

Not Every Massage Therapist Is a Lymphatic Therapist

Massage therapy covers a wide range of techniques and specialties. Being a massage therapist does not automatically mean someone has advanced education in the lymphatic system or understands how to appropriately work with a body that has recently undergone surgery.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage requires a very different approach from traditional massage.

MLD uses gentle, rhythmic techniques designed to encourage healthy lymphatic flow. More pressure does not mean better results. In fact, one of the most common misconceptions we hear from clients is that post-surgery massage is supposed to hurt.

It shouldn’t.

Your therapist should understand lymphatic pathways, appropriate pressure, post-operative swelling, tissue changes, and how your care may need to evolve throughout your recovery.

That specialized education is one reason we require every Wrthit therapist to be C-MLD certified before working with our clients.

Certification Is Important. Experience Matters, Too.

Certification provides an important educational foundation, but post-surgery lymphatic care also requires judgment.

No two recoveries look exactly alike.

A client recovering from a tummy tuck may have very different needs from someone recovering from a BBL, liposuction, breast surgery, facial surgery, or a mommy makeover. Even two people who have had the same procedure can experience completely different patterns of swelling, sensitivity, mobility, and comfort.

A skilled post-surgery lymphatic therapist knows how to pay attention to what is happening with your body that day rather than performing the exact same routine at every appointment.

Your therapist should also understand the limits of their role. Lymphatic therapists do not replace your surgeon or medical team. When something appears outside the normal scope of massage therapy, an experienced therapist should know when to stop and refer you back to your medical provider.

That distinction matters.

Why Wrthit Created The Wrthit Way™

After more than 30 years as a massage therapist and tens of thousands of hands-on sessions, Wrthit Founder Monica Skalsky has learned that technique alone is only part of exceptional care.

Post-surgery clients need someone who can observe, listen, adapt, and understand that recovery is constantly changing.

That philosophy became The Wrthit Way™.

The Wrthit Way combines advanced lymphatic education, hands-on experience, gentle techniques, individualized care, and an understanding of the physical and emotional realities of recovering from surgery.

As Wrthit has grown, Monica’s role has evolved as well.

Today, she personally trains and mentors Wrthit therapists in The Wrthit Way™, helping ensure that the standards that shaped Wrthit continue throughout the team. Monica also remains available through a limited number of Founder Sessions for clients who specifically want to work with her.

Whether you choose a Wrthit therapist or a Founder Session, the goal remains the same: thoughtful lymphatic care based on your procedure, your stage of recovery, and what your body needs.

Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Post-Surgery Lymphatic Therapist

Before booking your post-op massages, don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Start with:

  • Are you certified in Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

  • Are you CAMTC certified?

  • How much experience do you have working with post-surgical clients?

  • Do you regularly work with clients after procedures such as liposuction, tummy tucks, BBLs, mommy makeovers, breast surgery, or facial surgery?

  • Will my sessions change as my recovery progresses?

  • What do you do if you notice something that should be evaluated by my surgeon?

A qualified therapist should be comfortable answering these questions.

You are trusting someone with your body at a time when it is vulnerable and healing. Credentials, education, experience, communication, and professional judgment are worth paying attention to.

Mobile Lymphatic Care During Your Recovery

There’s another part of post-surgery care that is easy to underestimate until you’re actually recovering: getting to your appointments.

Getting dressed, getting into a car, sitting through traffic, and getting back home can feel very different a few days after surgery than it does normally.

Wrthit specializes in mobile post-surgery lymphatic drainage, bringing professional care directly to you.

Your therapist arrives with the supplies needed for your session so you can receive your lymphatic care in the privacy and comfort of your home or recovery location.

For many of our clients, being able to stay home is one less thing to manage during an already demanding recovery.

Your Recovery Deserves Specialized Care

There are plenty of places to get a massage.

Post-surgery lymphatic care is different.

This is a time to look beyond price alone and ask who you are trusting with your recovery. Look at their education. Ask about their certification. At Wrthit, specialized lymphatic care isn’t an add-on to what we do. Wrthit also makes scheduling your post-op care simple. We help create a personalized appointment schedule around your surgery date and recovery needs, so your sessions can be planned ahead and you have one less thing to manage while you heal.

It’s what we do.

Every Wrthit therapist is C-MLD certified, CAMTC certified, and further trained in The Wrthit Way™ so that our clients receive knowledgeable, gentle, individualized care throughout their recovery.

We’ll learn about your procedure, answer your questions, and help you create a recovery plan that makes sense for you.

Your surgery may be one day. Your recovery is a journey. Let’s plan it The Wrthit Way™.
